NACF's Nurturing Your Nonprofit Hosts Panel Discussion on nonprofit funding

On May 21, Northwest Alliance Community Foundation (NACF) hosted a panel discussion for area nonprofits on Tips From Funders.  The panel was comprised of area experts in grant and fund making:  Jamie Morales - Community Bank, Joan O’Fallon – Polk Burnett Electric, and Angie Pilgrim - St. Croix Valley Foundation.

 

Nonprofit leaders from northern Polk and Burnett counties gathered at Northwest Passage Gallery to hear the panel members speak about what inspires them and what frustrates them when reviewing applications for grants.  The panel emphasized the importance of providing clear and complete information to help with decision-making.  Another key point they made was for a nonprofit to “Tell their story” in order to make the need apparent and compelling.

 

Sheila Beecroft, Director, Frederic Community Education said, “It was insightful and applicable to our local communities. The panel of funders shared valuable information about what they look for in a compelling grant application, as well as their support toward community projects and programs. It was helpful to learn about the funding process and the timeline for when funding is provided.”

Attendees had many questions for the panel members, and came away with many useful tips and a folder of helpful guidelines provided by UW Extension and other sources.

Webster Senior Center Installs Accessibility Door

Webster Senior Center President, Judy Bauerfeld, members of the Board and visitors celebrate the Center's new accessible entrance.

The Webster Senior Center can now open its door to everyone! Thanks to grant monies received from the Northwest Alliance Community Foundation, an affiliate of the St. Croix Valley Foundation, the Center has been able to provide an accessible entrance for its visitors!

The Center has worked for several years to rehab and upgrade the building formerly used by the Burnett County Historical Society. This year the focus turned to making sure that anyone who wanted to enter could do so easily and safely. Grant funds were used to rewire electrical circuits and install the accessibility operating mechanism. The Center happily welcomes visitors who can now enter the building despite reliance on mobility devices.

With this most recent improvement, the Center hopes more citizens aged 55+ will join in for the variety of games, sports, and special events hosted every week. Anyone interested is invited to join in for cards, bingo, pool, WII Bowling, and many other Center activities. In addition, the building is available for rent to anyone who would like to host a civic or family event.

 

 

 

Frederic Community Education Starts Balancing It Out

Balancing It Out - Improve Your Flexibility, Strength & Balance

Frederic Community Education has coordinated classes to help all ages improve motion, flexibility, balance, and stamina.  Balancing It Out will be offered twice weekly (Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:30-10am) at Frederic Senior Community Center.  All ages are welcome, however, the program is geared toward ages 65+.

The class will be led by Cheryl Whitman using the ‘Classical Stretch’ DVD curriculum (with PBS Fitness Host, Miranda Esmonde White); it will begin with a gentle warm-up & work into stretching 600 muscles.  Participants may use a chair for balance and support.  The goal of the program is focused on reducing falls and improving overall quality of life.

Balancing It Out will begin Monday, January 22 and will continue through May 22.  Registration is required through Frederic Community Education at www.fredericsd.org (community link) or 715-327-4868.  Classes are free for January and $5/month thereafter, thanks to a grant received from Northwest Alliance Community Foundation, an affiliate of the St. Croix Valley Foundation.
