Happy New Year!

As we plan for 2024, NACF will continue to use this column to feature our amazing area nonprofits and the importance of the work they do. If you made a New Year’s resolution to be more active in your community, consider volunteering your time and support for a nonprofit group; you will feel good about your accomplishments, and your actions will benefit many others. One of the most rewarding tasks for the NACF board is to give grants to area nonprofits, and the 2023 fall grant cycle was exceptional. NACF funding, with additional grants from 100 Women Who Care-Polk/Burnett and the Richard M. Schulze Foundation, enabled NACF to distribute $29,145 to eight organizations for projects impacting health and wellness for seniors (65+). Polk and Burnett Counties are experiencing explosive growth in their senior populations, and this creates a variety of challenges; NACF grants in 2023 focused on current and future efforts to address issues related to this sector of the population.

Grants were distributed to the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Northwest Wisconsin, to develop the Burnett County Central Kitchen for meal preparation/delivery; the Frederic School District, for the Balancing It Out senior fitness program; Friends of the Gandy Dancer State Trail, for helping with purchase of a pedal assist e-bike to provide recreational activity for Frederic nursing home and assisted living residents; Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County, for continuing to build wheelchair ramps; Interfaith Caregivers of Polk County, for operating expenses; Larsen Family Public Library, to partner with ADRC for pop-up libraries at meal sites and sending library materials with meal deliveries; Luck Public Library, for chair yoga classes for seniors; and Webster Senior Citizens, for installation of a handicapped access door at the Senior Center.

NACF began offering grant opportunities in 2016 and to date has awarded 79 grants totaling more than $150,000 to 50 nonprofits. Founded in 2013, NACF empowers people by providing learning opportunities, building financial resources, meeting community needs, awarding nonprofit grants, and helping individuals and families to leave a legacy. NACF is an affiliate of the St. Croix Valley Foundation. Please consider joining us by making a donation. See our website nacommunityfoundation.org for more information or email nacf.hq@gmail.com.
