2024 Nonprofits Expo
"It was wonderful just to have the opportunity to get the word out that we exist."
If you attended the Oct. 17 Know Your Nonprofits Expo in Siren, you had the opportunity to visit with more than 40 area nonprofits that welcomed the public and told their stories about helping our neighbors and doing good work in our communities. Displays and conversations included information on area food shelves, safe housing, and clothing distribution; student backpacks and school essentials; mental and physical health care; and services for infants, families, teens, and seniors. Attendees also played with kittens, learned about eagle and raptor rehabilitation, explored education and job training options, and were introduced to trishaw biking and pickleball activities. Co-hosted by the Northwest Alliance Community Foundation (NACF) and 100 Women Who Care Polk Burnett, with a generous sponsorship from the Webb Lake Community Club, the evening showcased a variety of support services and opportunities for volunteerism.
NACF introduced the first nonprofit expo in 2016 as a public venue for promoting education and support of the many diligent Burnett and Polk nonprofits. What began as an event to introduce the public to nonprofit work has also become an opportunity for nonprofit staff to meet, exchange information, and develop partnerships for their own needs. As one director stated, "I’m just thankful for the opportunity of exposure to the local communities and other nonprofits with the possibility of networking." NACF works with more than 30 nonprofits in Burnett County alone, yet they are often overlooked, although their programs and services impact many lives. One expo participant noted "Lots of opportunity to network with colleagues and share our programs with community members is incredibly important."

One of the evening’s highlights was the public announcement of a $100,000 donation by Jennifer Turrentine. Click this link to read her moving keynote speech.
