The Youth of Burnett County Prevention Coalition

The Youth of Burnett County Prevention Coalition has been working to create a healthier, safer environment for our youth since June 2022. YOBC represents a collaborative and comprehensive approach to addressing youth substance misuse—bringing together 12 diverse sectors united by a single mission.

Our vision is clear and compelling: to build a community free of substance misuse, where young people can thrive and reach their full potential. This isn’t just a goal—it’s a commitment that drives every aspect of our work.

The strength of our coalition lies in its diversity. By bringing together representatives that include youth, parents, businesses, media, schools, law enforcement, healthcare, government, and community organizations, we create a holistic network of support and prevention. Each sector brings unique insights and resources, allowing us to develop comprehensive strategies that address substance misuse from multiple angles.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. We welcome community members to join us and contribute at any level of commitment. Whether you can help once or twice a year or have more time to dedicate, there’s a place for you in our mission. Our flexible volunteer approach means everyone can make a meaningful difference.

We measure our impact both through personal stories and objective data. Community conversations provide anecdotal evidence of our growing influence, while Youth Risk Behavior Survey data offers concrete insights into our effectiveness in addressing substance misuse.

Our early efforts are already showing promising results. Between 2021 and 2023, we’ve seen significant positive changes among local high school students. Vaping use has dropped from 17% to 10% in the past 30 days, and the number of high school students who have never tried alcohol has increased from 48% to 55%. These statistics demonstrate the tangible impact of our community-wide approach to youth substance prevention.

We believe that protecting our youth requires more than isolated efforts. It demands collaboration, understanding, and a shared dedication to creating positive change. Through education, prevention programs, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, we are working to equip our young people with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to make healthy choices.
