Interfaith Caregivers of Polk County

Whether you grew up here or have come from a more urban area, you’ll find the richness of the rural farming communities and the peaceful, slower pace of life in Polk County, bringing to mind a feeling of home. Most of us know our neighbors. We see each other at church and local school sporting events. We come together at celebrations, and we’re there to support each other in times of need.

Living in northwest Wisconsin has countless positive aspects, but there are some challenges as well. Polk County is experiencing a changing demographic as our population ages, and over 1 in 5 residents is now aged 65 or older. Interfaith Caregivers was formed in 1995 by people who recognized the growing need for services to help seniors and adults with disabilities lead independent lives. We coordinate rides, yard work, housekeeping, errands, shopping, and so much more for clients. There are no income guidelines, and services are provided at no cost (but donations are always welcome!)

For more than 28 years, program staff have recruited and trained volunteers who provide support and assistance so that our clients can maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life at home, for as long as possible. Our 158 dedicated, caring volunteers gave 5,254 rides and drove an astonishing 95,153 miles to help their neighbors in 2023. What an accomplishment! Yet, the most important activity is the visit, so characteristic of rural living – sharing time and stories, smiles, and knowing that someone else cares.

To continue this tradition of neighbors helping neighbors, Interfaith relies on the support of individuals, businesses, churches, organizations, and foundations. We are a proud partner of the Northwest Alliance Community Foundation, an affiliate of the St. Croix Valley Foundation, which recently awarded Interfaith Caregivers of Polk County $4,000 to help seniors and adults with disabilities live healthier and happier lives at home.

It takes many hearts behind every service to help as many people as possible feel seen, cared for, and part of the community.
