Nurturing Community – Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County

As published in the Intercounty Leader September 6, 2023

Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County was established as a nonprofit in 1998 to serve the people of Burnett County by providing assistance to those who cannot afford to provide for themselves. Although our focus is on the elderly, disabled, veterans and homebound, we have many others with needs we try to fulfill. Since Burnett County is an aging, financially stressed county with many people lacking basic needs to live, Interfaith Caregivers aids those in need by helping them to alleviate certain hardships they may face on a daily basis. Our programs include Wheelchair Ramps, Heat-a-Home, Christmas for Kids, and Support Services.

Interfaith coordinates the Wheelchair Ramps program, which provides people with limited mobility to regain their independence and quality of life. Since 2004, we have built 156 ramps with 48 of them completed in the last three years.

242 loads of wood were delivered to 125 households in 2022 through our Heat-a-Home program. This service is made possible by many individuals and groups of volunteers who cut, split, stack and deliver the wood. One recipient said, “They are the best in the world. I was ready to give up and let my house go back to the bank because I didn’t know how I was going to

be able to heat my house with wood and they came to my rescue. I love all of you that were here today and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Christmas for Kids was created for the purpose of helping make a Christmas for each of Burnett County’s children who would not otherwise have gifts to open on Christmas day. In 2022, our program helped 297 children from 123 families receive gifts of clothing, toys, and gift cards for food. If you are in need of this assistance, all you need to do is call us.

Our Support Services help with rides to medical appointments and grocery shopping; payment of utility bills; rent and housing for the homeless; small home repairs and car repairs; and Rise and Shine, a daily call-in program. We know how confusing and frustrating it can be when people are looking for help. Interfaith Caregivers has a broad base of volunteers that can provide assistance, and we work with people to find those resources which best fit their needs.
