Nurturing Community – Indianhead Community Action Agency

INDIANHEAD COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY

“That moment when I got the call that I was approved for the Legal Assistance for Victims program felt like I took the first calm breath of relief I’ve had in a long time. My attorney was there for me and actually listened to me. That was all I needed – a voice and support.” –Client testimonial

Indianhead Community Action Agency was established in 1966 to assist individuals in achieving self-sufficiency by providing the resources, education, and services necessary to develop healthy families, sustainable communities, and strong local businesses. ICAA works hard in northwest Wisconsin to empower people to move from crisis and at-risk situations to safe, stable, and thriving environments. ICAA is the recognized leader for ending poverty and creating sustainable communities through self-sufficiency in Wisconsin’s rural areas.

ICAA offers many programs including Business Development; Food Pantries; Emergency Services programs; Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV); The Civil Legal Assistance (CLA) program; ICAA Home Visiting program; Quest Program; Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF); Childcare resources and support; Lifeline Program and the ICAA Family Resource Center. ICAA is

also opening a food pantry in Grantsburg. Read more about their programs at https://www.indianheadcaa.org/programs/. ICAA has a dedicated staff serving low-income children, families, individuals, seniors, and veterans. They are always assessing the needs of their communities and trying to find federal, state and local grants to address the ever-changing circumstances. They serve approximately 7,500-8,000 individuals annually.

As with most local nonprofits, ICAA biggest challenges are finding financial resources to support programs, getting timely feedback from clients, and recruiting volunteers to help at the food pantries, Connections store, Head Start/Early Head Start, and for the Board of directors.
