Nurturing Community – Burnett County Family Resource Center
NURTURING COMMUNITY
As published in the Intercounty Leader on April 19, 2023
The Burnett County Family Resource Center (FRC) mission is to serve all families by providing opportunities and activities that promote healthy families and safe communities.
FRC has been a treasured local resource for the last 15 years by offering play and learn groups, family fun events, parent education and home visits, supervised visitation services, a diaper pantry, free gently used baby clothes and so much more. The goal is to eliminate child abuse by offering services that are meant to bring families closer together, connect with their peers, and get to know the community that we share. In 2022, FRC served over 600 families, with many of them utilizing several programs. One says, “As a grandma, I have appreciated BCFRC for many years as I have brought my granddaughters to play days at the center and the park. My granddaughters have thoroughly enjoyed the craft kits, we’ve done so many over the years. I am very thankful for all BCFRC does for our community.”
FRC encourages families of all kinds to reach out for parent support. For questions about potty training, discipline, or developmental milestones, staff can help. For one-on-one assistance
with budgeting, or just conversation, families are encouraged to contact FRC. Services are completely confidential. All parent education and family fun activities are free. FRC also offers 1:1 parenting support. For additional support to parents and caregivers, FRC will be starting a parenting support group in the spring.
All FRC programs are intended to build family strengths. Families that know how and where to find help and can connect with others, feel more confident and better connected to their kids. To help realize its mission, FRC would like to start a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). PAC is a group of parents and caregivers who have used or are currently using FRC services. Join the PAC to help create new programs, strengthen existing ones, strengthen personal leadership skills, and much, much more. A client commented, “Being a large family in a rural area, we have used so many of their services and made such great connections. Our community has been blessed to have such a wonderful program.”
