Communities United in Education (CUE)
Communities United in Education (CUE) is committed to the unique partnership that exists between the school districts of Webster and Siren and the community it serves. Community Education provides lifelong opportunities for citizens to affect the quality of life within their community by sharing their knowledge, skills, and interest with one another, thus promoting dignity, compassion and pride. By providing a supportive environment where individuals can learn and grow, CUE empowers residents to overcome personal challenges and improve their quality of life.
CUE offers a wide range of classes, from basic computer skills and financial literacy to health and wellness workshops. This past year (2023-24,) 942 people attended CUE classes.
These classes not only equip participants with valuable knowledge but also foster a sense of community and belonging. The shared experience of learning together creates bonds that can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and build a network of support. Moreover, the benefits of such programs extend beyond the individual participants. When community members are better educated and more connected, the entire community thrives. CUE is committed to continuing this vital work and expanding their reach.
CUE relies on allocations from the Siren and Webster school districts, participation fees, and community support to cover expenses such as instructors, advertising, supplies, operations, and director costs. However, funding from the school districts has not increased in a decade. This has compelled CUE to seek grants, like those awarded by 100 Women Who Care and St. Croix Valley Arts, alongside donations and class registration fees.
Public support ensures that more people have access to the resources and education they need to lead healthier, happier lives. Together, we can make a lasting impact and build a brighter future for all.
“I have taken more than 5 classes via CUE in Siren. Yoga classes are my favorite, I’ve gained friends, health and am working on a stronger downward facing dog. Other classes include learning how to grow and use rhubarb, and the class introduced me to a pie recipe that is now a family favorite!”
“CUE is full of great opportunities in a place where it can easily be perceived that there are few.
“After 20+ years living in the Twin Cities, CUE helps me stay interested in the world and helps me be more interesting to my friends. I am so grateful for CUE!” ~Joni Anderson
“I attended the lawn mower care and repair workshop. I learned a few simple, but very important steps to making my mower run smoother and longer. I’ll save money by doing some repairs on my own too.” ~Lynn Steinmetz
“Siren CUE has such a wonderful and inspiring variety of community education classes. The Writers Group attracted my attention first. This is a diverse group of people so it’s fun learning from each other as well as the primary instructor. There are so many other classes that I’m interested in as well such as the Star Party. In my opinion, Siren CUE is the best community education program in the area.” ~ Joy Borchardt
