Nurturing Community – Frederic Community Education

Frederic Community Education Fostering Community Connections

Community Education broadens the traditional functions of public schools by fostering connections between the home, school, and community. It offers lifelong learning opportunities for individuals of all ages seeking to develop skills, explore new interests, or engage more deeply within the community. Through active recreation, citizen involvement, and informal non-credit courses that utilize the school’s resources, along with collaborations with local organizations, Community Ed brings enrichment to the entire community.

Frederic Community Education (FCE) offers a wide range of opportunities. Program guides are distributed bi-annually to Frederic School District residents, but surrounding communities are also welcome and encouraged to participate. New classes and activities are continually added to the extensive class line-up including writing, arts and crafts, cooking, educational topics, safety training, community tours, and many more. Ongoing classes and activities are also offered in areas of fitness, health and wellness, music lessons, etc. Additionally, Frederic Community Pickleball Association operates under the umbrella of FCE. Community service projects, such as knit afghans and trail clean-up, are in progress as well as special events.

Many class instructors are local community members who are eager to share their passions, talents, and skills. Classes and activities are funded by the collection of affordable participation fees. Frederic Community Education has also received grants from Northwest Alliance Community Foundation to launch the Balancing It Out Program, an ongoing senior balance and stretching class. FCE has also received funding from Polk-Burnett Operation Round-Up for pickleball equipment, technology, and reduced-cost CPR/AED classes.
