Ensuring Frederic Kids Have Resources To Thrive

In 2022, the non-profit organization S.P.A.R.K. (Supplying hoPe Around ouR Kids) was founded with a clear mission: to ensure that children in the Frederic area have the resources they need to thrive. The organization provides school supplies, clothing, personal hygiene items, and other essentials to promote the health, happiness, and success of local children.

S.P.A.R.K. serves a wide range of young individuals, including students, daycare children, and those in foster care. A child’s support network extends beyond their immediate environment; therefore, the organization also occasionally assists teachers and direct caregivers to ensure children’s needs are fully met. Since its start, S.P.A.R.K. has collaborated closely with the Frederic School District, local daycares, and Polk County social workers to identify and assist children and families in need. To date, S.P.A.R.K. has assisted more than 20 students and families.

Despite its successes, S.P.A.R.K. faces some challenges. One of the key hurdles is developing a streamlined process to identify students who could benefit most from their services. Raising community awareness about the support S.P.A.R.K. offers is another priority, as increased involvement could amplify the organization’s impact.

S.P.A.R.K. is actively seeking new members to join their mission and help expand their reach. The team is currently building a storage shed that will enable 24/7 access to resources to ensure students can get support immediately. This project represents a significant step toward making their services even more accessible and ensuring no child is left without the essentials they require.

Community support is at the heart of S.P.A.R.K.’s work. Local businesses and a grant from Polk Burnett Electric Cooperative have been vital in the success of this group. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, everyone has an opportunity to contribute to this mission. As the organization continues to grow, so does its capacity to create a brighter future for the children of Frederic.
